The Medium-Term Plan for EANET (2026–2030), which has been approved by the Twenty-seventh Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting on the EANET, held on 27–28 November 2025, sets the strategic direction for the network’s first full five‑year cycle under its expanded scope. The Plan identifies key regional challenges—rising PM₂.₅, ozone pollution, nitrogen‑related issues, and insufficient monitoring capacity in several countries. It outlines three main outcomes: (1) stronger and more comprehensive monitoring of priority pollutants (PM₂.₅ and components, O₃, NOₓ, NH₃), (2) improved access to policy‑relevant scientific assessments, and (3) enhanced cooperation, visibility, and resource mobilization. Core activities include expanding monitoring sites, upgrading equipment, strengthening QA/QC systems, advancing data analysis and visualization, and promoting methodological exchanges on satellite data, low‑cost sensors, and AI. The MTP also emphasizes integration of monitoring data for policy development, collaborative research on nitrogen management, and increased regional partnerships. Through the Project Fund and its Partnership and Resource Mobilization Strategy, the Plan encourages co‑financing, South‑South cooperation, and broader stakeholder engagement to ensure a sustainable and impactful EANET over the next decade.
