LEAP-GPT is a new AI-powered assistant developed to support users of the Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP), a widely used tool for energy and climate planning developed by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). Created by Matthew Davis at the University of Alberta, LEAP-GPT runs on the ChatGPT platform and offers intelligent, conversational assistance for automating and scripting LEAP models. It is particularly valuable for users with limited programming experience, helping them make full use of LEAP’s powerful API.
The assistant helps users navigate the LEAP software, offering step-by-step guidance for tasks such as building model structures, inputting data, extracting results, and managing scenarios. It generates custom code for automating LEAP workflows and provides clear instructions for setting up scripts from scratch. LEAP-GPT also ensures users follow best practices in using the LEAP API, including proper handling of branches, filters, data inputs, results retrieval, and error management. It is capable of supporting more advanced modeling needs as well, such as running batches of scenarios, performing sensitivity analyses, and validating model structures and results.
